1st XI - Abberley 116, Pinewood 117 - lost

The cricket marathon continued on thursday with another 100 minute road trip, this time to Swindon to play Pinewood. A Leavers XI was despatched and elected to bat first on a fantastic hard pitch. The opening bowlers were good and our start was slow with Ed soon out. Will C came to the crease and blasted another 60 runs, his fourth half century in 9 days. He received some support from Will F and Barnaby but when he was out wickets tumbled, several ro run outs and we reached 116-9 in our 20 overs.

In reply Pinewood were always up with the rate, thanks initially to the number of wides bowled. Pinewood bowled 12 but we managed 22 ! The legside rule was clear for all but too many of ours were on the offside. Wickets fell as Pinewood reached 80 but there were still enough overs for them to cross the line by playing sensibly. Only one was required off the final over and it was perhaps apt that it should come courtesy of a dropped catch by the keeper.

It was a good game played in lovely surroundings against pleasant boys who were just a bit better than us . A good effort by the Abberley boys who once again came up just a bit short.
