Rounders Roundup - Wednesday 27th May

Under 11A - Abberley v Dean Close - 11-11.5

This turned out to be a fast and sharp match, very exciting to watch. Melissa was our Captain for the day and did a fine job keeping the team together and looking after our guests.

We were the first to bat having lost the toss, and soon realised that The Elms were not going to take any prisoners. They were extremely sharp from back stop to first post claiming several of our batters and also proved their catching abilities too. Annabel’s strong hitting scoring 2 rounders and Katie scoring 1, enabled us to finish on 5 along with The Elms in the first innings..

The Elms continued to field well in the 2nd innings, catching some good shots, but Annabel yet again managed to score 1 ½, diving at 2nd post on one occassion before being caught out and Olivia had a great innings scoring 3 ½ . Miranda and Rebecca also scored ½ a piece resulting in 6 rounders. This wasn’t bad at all considering the quality of the fielding. Abberley really needed to stay on their toes and field to the same level to keep in control of the game. Miranda started this off with an amazing catch completely off to her left. Katja also caught one out and so did Annabel out in deep field which caused her to fall like a plank backwards with hands raised up in the air in complete ‘Annabel fashion’! Rebecca remained very sharp on 4th catching 3 out. It really was neck and neck, but they just proved to be slightly stronger on the hitting as a team and managed to nudge ahead of us by ½ rounder.

Under 9 v St Richards, 13.5 - 9.5

The first away match for the girls, and the excitement in the minibus was obvious. We fielded first and fielded well. Lily and Elise combined to stump players out at first, and Tabitha bowled consistently. St Richards scored 6.5 rounders. Abberley then batted for the first time, and although the opposition did not get many of us out, they restricted our scoring to only 3.5. So after a drink and a team talk Abberley set about trying to win, and they fielded well. Zara threw in from the deep beautifully, and Lily organised from backstop position. St Richards stretched their lead to 9.5 rounders. Violet, as captained, led by example as we batted again and scored a great rounder with her first hit. Lily, Abbie, and Georgia all scored rounders and the rest of the team all added to our final total. They batted brilliantly and all encouraged each other. A fabulous team performance that saw them overturn St Richards lead and win the game 13.5 - 9.5.

Under 11B - Abberley v Dean Close - Match abandoned

Henrietta was captain and Dean Close won the toss and batted first, they had powerful hitters and scored 2 rounders staight away. Olivia .C. stumped out a player at 3rd post but they continued to bat well and scored 6 1/2 rounders some from our no -balls.

After a sharp shower of rain and a short break, Abberley batted, some good hits by Henrietta and Phoebe enabled us to score a few half rounders, Dean Close fielding brilliantly to stop us getting full rounders, and a couple of no -balls another half ,and on our last bat Henrietta scored a great rounder, bringing our score to 3.

The heavens opened again and Dean Close deemed the ground too slippery to be safe so the match was abandoned.
Well played everyone
