On an appallingly dismal day, most of the other fixtures were cancelled or abandoned. The 4th XI were very fortunate to travel to Moffats where we were treated to a fantastically prepared pitch and blessed with the sunny microclimate that appeared to be centerd around the village of Kinlet.
Again we batted first and made a steady start to the match, but some inept strokes and a poor run out put pay to the good start. Fortunately for us Max was on good form and stubbornly made his way to 42 ably assisted by Javier, Alex and Nick and we finally declared at 113 for 9 giving them 1.5 hours to chase our target.
Moffats made a good start and we struggled to make any impression with our bowling, but finally with the score on 85 Christian managed to clean bowl their opening batsman. Although Moffats had not lost any wickets the overs (and time) had been progressing rapidly.
With twenty minutes of the match remaining the score was 90 for 1 giving them 5 overs to score 24 runs to win the match! Our opening bowlers of Javier and Max returned and the whole team became possessed with not letting the ball get past them. The pressure was then on Moffats, in quick succession we bowled out one of their batsman and ran out the other – time was up, we had a winning draw with them 5 runs short of our target.
Well played boys - some extremely exciting cricket towards the end of the match.
