1st XI Cricket

We have waited all term for a 1st XI win and two come along in two days ! On friday we entertained St.George's from Port Elizabeth in South Africa. We were lucky to play after all the recent rain and on a very slow pitch our visitors only amassed 89-8 in their 35 overs. It would have been even better but for 12 wides !

In reply we were faltering at 30-3 and it appeared that the frailties that have bedevilled this term were going to surface again. However Shamus and Francis batted with good sense and ran lots of good singles and aided by some lusty blows from Perry we crept over the line with 4 overs to spare. It had been a gutsy, determined effort.

On Saturday Moor Park were the opposition. Playing on the same sticky pitch Abberley produced their best batting display of the term scoring 155-4 in 30 overs. Rory hit an impressive 75 not out aided by a patient 47 from Max.

In reply Moor Park were never really in the hunt though it took 10 overs to make a breakthrough. Max removed their best batsmen with a direct hit run out and our opponents were skittled for 64. The wickets were shared amongst all the bowlers.

Sunday should have seen a third game but the overnight rain persuaded Horris Hill not to travel from Berkshire. Hopefully this game might be rearranged before the end of term.
