1st XI v Bilton Grange (away)
Abberley 114 for 4, Bilton Grange 115 for 1 - Lost by 9 wickets
The 1st XI are still searching in vain for a victory after a 9 wicket defeat at Bilton. The game was closer than it sounds with the winning runs scored with only one over left in the game. Batting first Abberley got off to a slow start due to consistent bowling and ineffective batting. Momentum gradually gathered with the arrival of Rory who struck a pleasant 35 with some super back foot boundaries but our eventual total of 114-5 in 35 overs was yet again not a challenging total to chase.
The seam bowling in reply was wayward and control only came with the belated introduction of the spinners, Max and Tom. They bowled well but some good powerful batting on a bouncy wicket eased them to the total. It was a little tense at the end but victory was Bilton's with 6 balls to spare.
Once again our opponents have batted better than us on the day. Abberley kept working all game and played some nice cricket but it was yet again not our day.
