Rounders Review - Wednesday 23rd May

U13/ U12 v Packwood

We won the toss and put Packwood in to bat. They had some big hitters but the girls remained focused and slowly got the players out. The triangle of Holly, Jenny and Annie took four stumpings and there were excellent catches from Lucy and Natasha. Packwood scored 12.5. The Abberley girls stayed calm as they slowly caught up with Packwood's score. Holly, Lucy, Bethany and Annie all made contributions to our innings score of 9.5.
The second innings was even closer, Packwood managed to score another 7 rounders but our fielding was superb. We only needed ten and a half to win. The girls played brilliantly by really pressuring the fielders, and taking lots of cheeky half rounders. Their bowler got frustrated and started to bowl no-balls and our girls continued to get closer and closer to a winning score. With four balls left and only 3.5 rounders needed, Natasha smashed a great rounder but Packwood became more focused as they could see that we could beat them. They fielded the last three balls really well, and denied Abberley from scoring any more.
A really exciting game with the score finishing 19.5 against 17.

U11 Abberley 8.5 Packwood 22.5

Abberley girls batted first to an unfamiliar but highly effective style of fielding from Packwood. Unfortunately Abberley were unable to get enough hits and only scored five rounders in the first innings, thanks to Charlotte who really went for it on her last bat and ran all the way round. Despite fielding well, Packwood were superior batters and scored 10 in their innings, giving them a strong lead at half time.

In the second innings Immy made two great hits but unfortunatly too many of our girls were out at first post having missed the ball and we only scored 3 1/2 rounders, giving us a total of 8 1/2. Abberley kept their spirits up to field against Packwood and worked hard with lots of communication. There were rather a lot of dropped catches but good effort by all of the girls, including some excellent deep fielding by Rosalind, Tertia and Teya. Overall Charlotte, Immy and Olivia got 7 people out with their bowler, backstop, 1st post triangle. Packwood finished with an impressive final score of 22 1/2.
