The Abberley Hall cross-country team successfully defended The Lucton Tercentenary Cup that we won last year. Twelve schools took part in the four races. Under 8 and Under 9 boys and girls made up the first two races and Under 10 and U11 boys and girls made up the third and fourth races. The course was around playing fields for the younger groups and an added section through the woods for the senior races.
This is an excellent event as it allows us to take a lot of younger runners who, although their place may not necessarily contribute to the team score, their participation introduces them all too competitive cross-country running.
We took thirty three runners ranging from Class 3 in the pre-prep up to the shell year group. The places of the first three runners from each school in each race are taken and the school with the lowest total score wins.
Georgie W continued her success from Hallfield with a first place and Violet T came third in a very dramatic finish in the junior girls’ race.
Lucien W ran very well to just be beaten on the line in the junior boys’ race.
Katja C-S ran impressively to win the senior girls’ race.George B and Rhoderick P came first and second in the senior boys’ race.
To win six of the twelve available medals was an excellent achievement but there was also some very good running from those just outside the medals. Everyone ran with great commitment and thoroughly deserved to be part of the winning team.
