Football Focus - Saturday 8th March

1st XI vElms 1 - 0

Before the game today Max, Tom, Francis and Arthur were awarded their colours. Well done to them.

This wasn’t a pretty game. In the first half we struggled to gain momentum, looking tired after yesterday’s rugby. The touch and zip of Wednesday were missing. There were chances at both ends but the half was rather scrappy. We turned around 0-0.

The second half saw an improvement in commitment and determination as we began to dominate periods of the game.

Max hit the bar when clean through and it appeared to be ‘one of those days’. Eventually Tom’s quick feet saw him squirm through the defence to slot calmly past the keeper. There were further chances, and goal-mouth scrambles. But we were unable to press home the advantage. The Elms did cause a few scares and came close to the equaliser. However, we held on for victory. The sign of a good team – when you can grind out a win when not playing well!
