1st XI vSt John's 1 - 5 (away)

Oops! This was a disappointing performance. The pitch was heavy and so were our legs, apparently. The opposition were competent footballers who played as a team. As a result we were exposed in most areas, being forced deeper and deeper. Too many kicks were missed and passes miscontrolled. Half-time was only 1-0. The game was still there for the winning. An error saw us go 2-0 down. However, Henry scored a volley to put us back in with a shout. This only spurred St. John’s on. They picked us off and scored freely to complete the rout.

A rethink and hard work is required. I am sure the team will bounce back.

2nd XI vSt John's 1 - 4 (away)

Despite a 4-1 defeat against St John’s on the Hill, the 2nd XI played with enthusiasm, discipline and composure. Our back four should be congratulated for the effort they put into it and O. Perry scored a fantastic goal in first half. Unfortunately we have not capitalized all our chances and we paid dearly the price in second half. Hopefully the boys will learn form their mistakes.

3rd XI vSt John's 1 - 0

The 3rd XI held on for a hard fought victory today against a tough side. This being the first match, it took the players a little while to adjust to playing on grass. The intial exchanges were frenetic, but the players adapted well, and with Alex commanding the midfield, gaps started to appear and good balls were fed through to Rohin and Nick at the front. The midfield backed up well, and Archie and particularly Charlie.G. on the wing pushed hard. However we didn't have it all our way by any means, and the real stars of the day were the back four, who refused to let their line be broken.Will. A-J was outstanding in the centre back position and with Will.M. they bossed those around them with great passion and zeal. Andrew and Freddie on the wings covered brilliantly as well. The goal came from some neat play in the centre of midfield where Alex and Archie took the ball on, drawing the defence and Archie slotting the ball to Rohin who finished. A great all round effort from the team. Well done.

Colts A vs St John's 3-1 (away)

One of the trickier fixtures of the season is the long trip to Chepstow so to come away with a 3-1 victory was a terrific effort by the Colts A boys. We started poorly and for the first fifteen minutes were second best. It was no surprise that we went a goal behind and but for the safe hands of Max it could have been worse. Gradually we warmed to our task and scored a lucky equaliser when under pressure from the Tobies up front, an own goal was scored.

However there was no luck in a second half display of character and determination. We kept our shape a lttle better and were more positive in the tackle. Eventually our pressure brought its rewards with 15 minutes to go as Jack cracked in a super strike from just outside the box. But there was more to come as out of virtually nowhere , Josh hammered the ball from a good 30 yards. The ball flew into the top corner of the goal and an excellent victory was ours. Did he mean it ? Who cares. A better Abberley goal will not be scored all term
