1st XV v Packwood 17-14
It is always tough for Packwood as they have just switched from their football season. They clearly have a very good side this year but fortunately we caught them before they have got into their full stride. The conditions were rather bleak with cold, windy and rainy conditions. We played with the conditions in the first half and led 12-5 at the break. Packwood dominated the territory but when we entered their third of the pitch we managed to score. Our rucking and strong tackling kept our noses just in front. The second half proved a nerve wracking affair as Packwood used the conditions to their advantage. Their fast and powerful left wing was well marshalled as he looked to be a threat. Packwood gained the ascendancy toward the end of the match but we were able to hold on for a tense victory.
Colts A v Packwood 14-0
We started the game much improved from our previous encounter and did not allow the opposition to settle to any rhythm. Good counter-attacking in our own half and against a strong breeze put the opposition on the back foot and allowed our strength and experience to tell. A break down the left by the backs was superbly finished off by our second row who supported his faster men for most of the game. Solid tackling and cohesive team work won the day when a second try in the second half stretched our lead. a good team performance!
Colts B v Packwood 10-12
Colts B served up another cracker in appaling conditions and were unlucky not to come away with at least a draw in this hotly contested game. A well honed Packwood side, gave us a tough examination, and we were trailing early on. With 4 regular B players out through illness, there was a quite remarkable fight back. The boys who came in performed admirably, in particular, Thomas, the try scorer, Jamie.S. in the forwards and Oli .H. again performed magnificently. The team really really fought hard for each other and it was a privelige for boths parents and coaches to watch! The side was again spurred on by the captain Aidan, with other stirring performances from Nick .H., Ed.H., and the backs generally. This was however, very much a team effort and every single one of them performed really well.

‘Packwood Punish Under Strength Colts C’
In the immortal words of Frankie Howerd, “ Woe, woe and thrice woe!” Only ten Colts C boarded the coach up north: our Captain for the day arrived in School; off Games whilst our hooker never arrived at all! Nevertheless, with cheery faces the team clambered off the coach and into the plush new changing rooms of Packwood’s new Sports Hall complex. On to the pitch and the wind was blowing strongly across the pitch. The referee’s whistle sounded and match began. Packwood had some size and a number of very fast backs. The familiar trek back to our posts to await the conversion attempt became a regular occurrence in the first half. Callum M. made some strong runs but we didn’t support well enough and when the ball was lost we suffered. Matty R. sniped around the base of the scrums and darted for the gaps. He played well and gave Buggy R. a number of chances to run with the ball. There was effort in the forwards with James W. playing very well and James G. providing power to the rucks and mauls. Otto W. was left with little space as the Packwood defense closed him down efficiently. The second-half saw Matty R. score a well taken try and he fully deserved his points. Packwood had kindly replaced many of their star players and match was slightly more even. Otto W. brought off a fantastic tackle on one of their bigger forwards but our defence was not water-tight. Thomas W. played his best game to date and got more involved but in the end we were not really together as a team and all our individual effort was not enough to change the outcome of the match.
Thankyou supporters for your cheers of encouragement. Only one more match and that thankfully is Home!
