1st XV v Cheltenham College J.S. 0-19

There is never any shame in losing to a better side and that was certainly true on this occasion. The effort and sheer courage on display from the 1st XV in the face of a very powerful Cheltenham team was highly impressive. Max C-S typified the Abberley spirit with a fine display of leadership, ferocious and courageous tackling, skilful play and total effort. This was fitting as his father had captained the Cheltenham side in their unbeaten season thirty one years previously. Where Max led, the rest followed and many brave tackles were made and rucks driven which prevented the side that had already beaten Millfield and The Dragon this season, form overwhelming the Abberley team.

Colts B v Cheltenham College J.S 7-42

The Colts could not match their previous performances and tamely lost to a very good and resourceful Cheltenham side. Our best period of the game came in the second half when sustained pressure in the Cheltenham half produced a forward try in the corner. The bigger opposition however, broke the shackles and produced a couple of solo efforts to draw away. Our early error strewn first half allowed the opposition to dictate the game and we ended up soundly beaten.

Colts B v Cheltenham College J.S (away) 0-45

With a rather depleted team, Colts B took on the might of Cheltenham and came off second best in this one sided affair. Abberley fronted up well in the initial exchanges, and indeed spent large portions of the first half in enemy territory. However we could not convert this advantage into points and were punished by a far more clinical and efficient cheltenham side.

Colts C v Cheltenham College J.S

Abberley Colts C 0 Cheltenham JS 'a huge amount!'

'Colts C Crushed by Crusading Cheltenham!'

If Colts C can be likened to Northern Rock, then a huge injection of cash, vitamins, red meat and general umph is required. Our stock market value has well and truly plummeted in the face of a relentless onslaught from our Gloucestershire friends. To be fair Cheltenham were powerful, fast and well drilled. They played attractive rugby and were slick Premier league to our dogged Division 3. Their inside centre took many a flat pass at high speed; the likes of which we haven't seen on a Colts C pitch before. Nevertheless, Colts C manfully defended the ramparts but Cheltenham just kept pouring through. Callum M and James G. gained ground and the forwards in general got stuck in but then........the ball was lost and Cheltenham were rampaging towards our try line. It didn't help that we were missing vital players due to illness and injury and even during the game Robert P. had to go off.
I am always impressed by Colts C's resilience and ability to bounce back They deserve praise for trying and at the end of the day being able to smile through adversity. Well done boys and once again thankyou to our loyal and patient band of supporters.
