2nd XV v v Downs Wraxall

Colts B v Blue Coat 0-41

This was a tough game for the players, all of whom were seriously guilty of underestimating their opponents and starting very slowly. Right from the start we put ourselves under some unnecessary pressure by making poor descisions. The tackling was woeful and with good hands and nippy runners, Blue Coat exploited our weaknesses and reaped their just rewards. By half time we looked like a shambles.
After half time we gathered ourselves and the boys steeled themselves to the task ahead and with true Abberley determination and passion the boys fought back. Pretty much throughout the entire second half we set up camp in their 22, but simply could not finish ruthlessly. Ed .H. had 2 barnstorming runs down the left flank but couldn't finish, the forwards worked as unit much more aggresively and it was pleasing to see Jake.P. and Rory. F. pouncing on loose balls, with Nick.H. the pack leader , backing up brilliantly. In the backs Chris.L. played fantastically, and put in one particularly crunching tackle. Freeman, on as a sub for Jack .S. was magnificent and certainly shored up the defence. However, one boy deserves a VC for his bravery and determination, wherever he went, mopping up loose balls, running bravely, and tackling with real anger and passion, he undoubtedly led from the front and his team behind him responded to that. Ed.M.

This was most definately a game of 2 halfs, and it was heartning to see the boys up their game and never give up, it was however all too little, too late.

Colts C v Blue Coat 0-55 (away)

Oh dear, oh dear! With three late withdrawls from the team due to illness and injury, it was a depleted Colts C which travelled up the M5. The beautiful pitches of Blue Coat School glistened in the welcoming Autumnal sunshine. But Oh dear, oh dear moments after the first whistle the team were lined up beneath their posts as if awaiting the firing squad having allowed Blue Coat to score the opening try. Our opponents possessed a number of fast runners but we were winning the set scrums and made ground. Thomas Wh. and Matty R. made telling incursions into enemy territory but the support was late in arriving and from attack we had to hastily draw up defensive lines. And therein lay one of our problems. Where was our defensive line? We put no pressure on Blue Coat and their speedy runners had the freedom of the pitch. Our forwards manfully soldiered on, notably Callum M. and Oliver H. but even they were not on top form. By half-time the demolition job had been completed and so it was decided to mix the teams for the second-half.
Oh dear, oh dear!
One interesting fact though: the Blue Coat referee, a member of staff, taught Nick Easter the England No.8 when he was at Dulwich College Prep.
