U13A

Abberley v Moor Park 1-0

The Under 13s have been working hard during practises to develop their 7-a-side game and were looking forward to putting their skills into action in this week's match. However, for some reason, it didn't start off as well as it usually did in games lessons. As confidence grew the girls remembered that it is much more effective to pass around the opposition than try to storm through them and there were several impressive passages in play. Annie played excellently well as sweeper, keeping the ball our ot our D and she often burst into full pace and drove the ball up the wing to deliver to the forwards. Recently selected for Worcestershire Jenny once again displayed her strength on the ball, beating defenders and then taking great shots at goal that just shaved the post!

It was in the second half that one of Jenny's shots rebounded off the goalie's kickers and found Immy, perfectly positioned, who took the ball left, around the keeper and slotted it into the goal! Thanks to some super saves from Elsie the score remained 1-0 and the girls were able to celebrate a well-deserved victory.

Abberley v The Downs 2-0

The girls had little time to rest before the next game against the Downs and the aim was to score an early goal, however Abberley did not make the best start and became very muddled in their positional and attackive play. They were also put off by some strong hitters and hard tacklers on the Downs' side. At half time the girls regrouped and showed great determination to secure another win. Gabrielle and Jenny both had some great attempts at scoring but it wasn't until Alison received the ball in the D and pushed it into the corner of the goal that Abberley wiere in the lead. The girls were now looking like the better hockey players and it wasn't long before a second goal was scored. Once again due to perfect positional play, Gabby was able to get on the end of a super corss from the left and tuck the ball behind the goalie. Well done girls, a super afternoon of hockey!

Abberley v Moor Park v The Downs 1-1

The Downs went on the play Moor Park who scored early on and led for most of the game. It was a fairly even match with play at both endds. The final score was 1-1 after a late equaliser form the Downs.

U13B v Moor Park 0-1 (away)

The U13's played tenaciously on unfamiliar neutral territory (Leominster's Bridge Street astro), holding a good Moor Park side to 0-0 at half-time. Rosalind, Bethany and Teya all had an outstanding half.

After conceding a goal early in the second half, Abberley fought back strongly and launched numerous attacks through Olivia B, Kate and Julia to release Olivia S in attack. We camped in Moor Park's half of the pitch for the last 10 minutes of the match and had just won another short corner as the final whistle blew. Although we were permitted to take the corner, the equalising goal continued to elude us.

Well played Abberley, led ably by Captain Burtie.
