Wrekin College Football Tourament

Abberley took part in a 6 a side football tournament on astro at Wrekin College on Sunday. There were ten teams in two groups of five. We began with purpose against Beech Hall from Macclesfield but could only manage a 0-0 draw despite dominating the possession. George did save the day at the end though saving a penalty.
In the next game we beat St.Winifreds from Shrewsbury with a comfortable 2-0 win, both goals from Toby. We had a break before returning against Pownhall Hall. We were slow and hesitant and never looked like scoring. We lost 1-0 to a penalty conceded by a defender going in the goalkeeping area !

We then had to win our last match to proceed through to the semi finals. We put on a better show but lost 2-0 to West House, thus finishing third in the group.

It was a creditable effort considering that several schools play football this term and not rugby like we do. The astro highlights failings in your basic technique and we will be working hard on control and passing in the next few weeks. There is potential for next term
