Colts A v Bilton Grange 14-14
We had our chances early on to secure tries but we could not breach the spirited oppositions defence and occasionally took the wrong option. Eventually we scored and immediately conceded a try a minute later. In the second half good pressure led to a further score to give us the lead only for the fast opposition winger to run the length of the pitch to draw level with a minute to go. We must learn to finish the opposition off when we have opportunities!
Colts B v Bilton Grange (away) 5-7
As the scoreline would suggest, this was a very tense, frought affair, with neither side giving an inch. Just like another certain match taking place on that afternoon, this was a game dominated by forward power. Bilton had a few heavier boys who often pushed us off our own scrums but to our credit we fought very hard. It was harum scarum stuff in the boiler house of the scrum, and the backs tackled and probed at their back line. Ed. M. again was outstanding at taking on his man, Jake, P. and Rory .F again put their bodies on the line for the team. Half time it was still 0-0 After the break we pushed hard and Robbie C. who was having an outstanding game at full back, ducked, and weaved, bobbed, and dived and like a baggie up a border burn, he darted through to score our only try. Bilton came straight back at us and we held the line well, but eventually, they got the try they deserved.
This was the most testing but also the most pleasing match for the boys to have been a part of, as they now know what it is like to have to fight hard for the victory. A very exciting game for all.
Colts C v Bilton Grange 10-15 (away)
'Colts C Continue to Impress'
Despite losing this closely fought battle the Colts C played with determination and skill. The effort was palpable from the sidelines as our forwards strained every sinew to push back the larger Bilton scrum. Our backs had plenty of ball but not much space as the opposition closed us down efficiently. We, on the other hand, gave their speedy inside centre too much space and he sprinted through our line to score. Nevertheless, we battled back up field and from broken play Thomas Wh. sprinted for the try line and touched down for a super try. In the second half, with the score at 15-5, we knew we had to put in an even greater effort. From the line-out James G. caught and drove forward but was held up. Otto W. stretched the Bilton defence but couldn't quite make the line. Callum M. drove forward: all strength and power but the massed ranks of the Bilton defence held firm. Finally, Oliver H., our dynamic leader, took the ball from a maul, spun round and dived for the line. Try! In the dying moments of the game Bilton came back strongly and desperate defence by Abberley just kept them out. And so it ended 10-15. Great game and well played all players. Our loss was made easier to bear on hearing the news of England's victory in the World Cup! Thankyou again to our supporters who made the long trek to Dunchurch.
