1st XV v Elms (Away) 34-0

Although the score suggests a one sided match, this was a good competitive fixture. Jack was rested for the match and Matt Sand Will C were taken off at half time. This gave valuable 1st XV experience to Archie L, Ed P and Timon. The Elms threatened the line for a period but dogged defence kept them at bay. ALastair scored four tries in his new position on the wing and Max probed consistently A Fly-by in a light aircraft containing Andrew Cripwell, an Abberley old boy and father of The Elms’scrum half, who was enjoying a stag weekend, rounded off an enjoyable afternoon.

Colts C v The Elms (away) 5-35

‘Courageous Colts C succumb to efficient Elms B’

With the Malvern Hills as a picturesque back drop, the Colts C took on a well organized and determined Elms team. We were on the back foot from the start and the Elms had crossed our line before we had really woken up. The Elms were fast and strong, especially in the scrums and they attacked in numbers. They were better than us at supporting the man with the ball and by passing they out manoeuvred us on numerous occasions. However, we tackled superbly. Rory F. was everywhere and tackled courageously. Oliver H. was also dynamic around the pitch and he was tireless in his efforts. Matthew R. at scrum half drove forward but we lacked sufficient support and often we lost the ball. Nevertheless, a determined drive in the second half saw us cross our opponents line. Callum M. got more involved in the game and made a number of forceful runs. Otto W. again had a good game. He ran fast and nearly scored. Max W. led the side well and varied the kick-offs to give us an advantage. Thomas Wh. dodged and scurried but could only make half-breaks as the Elms defence swarmed around him. Jamie S. improved as the game went on and he pushed hard in the rucks trying to get the ball on our side. At the final whistle there were many exhausted players! Colts C played bravely; their tackling was excellent and the passing improved in the second half. The better side won but Colts C deserve a pat on the back for their determination. Well played everyone and once again a huge thankyou to our loyal supporters who kept encouraging the boys throughout the match.
