The weather just about held for another fun day of parents competing with and against their children in the annual Parent – Pupil Sports Day.
The day began with picnics in the grounds before the highly entertaining first event; the DT ‘Egg Challenge’. The task of projecting a raw egg as far as possible brought out the engineers amongst the children and parents. All manner of contraptions were on show with varying degrees of success. Wulstan Nixon’s rocket was the highlight of the competition but the large catapult constructed by Wulstan and Mrs Nixon took first prize, just ahead of a worthy challenge by the Hill family, with a distance of 53 metres.

Thankfully all of the cricket and rounders matches were able to take place and some very close results (and rather dodgy scoring) occurred.
The Archery and Shooting competitions were very busy with Mr Wood and Barnaby proving the pair to beat.

The Rowing competition saw remarkable effort from all contestants especially considering the size and alcoholic content of the picnics. Mr Mucklow and Rory set a very fast early score which despite some valiant efforts, especially Mr Parry and Joe who trailed by a second, maintained the lead until the end.
Mrs Martyn-Smith took first place in the Mothers’ category with Rory.
The Ceramics room was busy with Giraffes being created. Mr Hill with Freddie and George worked superbly as a team to create the winning sculpture, which made up for their narrow loss in the ‘Egg Challenge’.

Individual challenges were made on the tennis courts, on the croquet lawn, on the badminton courts and on the table tennis table.
Great fun was had by all and the day was brought to a close, rather fittingly, with another launch of Wulstan’s Rocket. Plans are already being drawn up for next year’s Egg propelling devices!
