Tuesday Club - Friday 12th October

In true Prep. School fashion, the 'Tuesday Club' operates on a Friday evening. It takes the format of a series of talks on a variety of subjects and involves the Top Year as well as Form 5. Parents are also welcome to attend. Last night we welcomed Mr Mark Rind of Monmouth School who gaves us a hugely entertaining run through of the 'Life of an Actor'. He soon had us involved in a series of tongue twisters, highlighting how an actor must articulate to be able to communicate.

'A rubber baby buggy bumper' and 'red lorry, yellow lorry' apparently exercise different parts of the mouth and said at speed they soon get the jaws and facial muscles aching! Communicating through facial expression and body language was also important and the 'emotion chair' gave our pupils a chance to show 'anger', 'sadness' , 'fear' as well 'happiness' ; all very difficult in front of your peers. We even had to recite some Gibert & Sullivan at top speed; 'To sit in solemn silence in a pestilential prison with a life long lock Awaiting the sensation of a short sharp shock From a cheap and chippy chopper on a big black block'

Some were able to say this from memory at top speed after only a few practice goes.

To end with we had to stand up and 'send' a clap around the circle. We managed after a number of trials. This was a good exercise in concentration and timing.
We thank Mark Rind hugely for his talk; it got the series of 'Tuesday Clubs' off to a cracking start.
