'Service of Thanksgiving' Sunday 1st October

On Sunday, we had a ‘Service of Thanksgiving’ to celebrate 90 years of the school moving to Abberley Hall.

The service was based on the Service of Dedication that had been held in the Chapel in 1916 and certain prayers and hymns were used from that service.

A well-attended Chapel listened carefully as The Headmaster explained the move from London to Abberley and the very many changes that have taken place since 1916, sometimes quoting from written articles by past Headmasters.

We all sang the hymns ‘Praise my soul, ‘Immortal invisible’, The day thou gavest’ and ‘For all the Saints’.

Reading were from Ecclesiasticus and St Matthew and were read by Rory and Robbie. Later in the service, Cornelius read a fabulous account entitled ‘Lindisfarne moves to Abberley Hall’ which documented (sometimes amuzingly) the move from London to Abberley and how the pupils came to find their new ‘home’.

The Choir sang the reflective ‘A Prayer of St Richard of Chichester’ by L. White and the rousing ‘O Thou, the central orb’ by Charles Wood.

We all came away from the service feeling uplifted and very thankful of our school and its heritage.
