‘Naturally I am biased in favour of boys learning English: and then I would let the clever ones learn Latin as an honour, and Greek as a treat.’

Winston Churchill

The top stream of the Shells, Year 6, begin begin Greek and thereafter it is an optional subject for a few children who intend to sit academic scholarship examinations.

Public schools are keen for us to start Greek with those children who can manage it and scholarship candidates are helped by the fact that they can offer it. Children are prepared for schools with varying expectations in grammatical attainment but we try also to explore a little of the history, literature, philosophy and culture of Greek civilization.
