Geography

What are we about?
At Abberley the geography we teach should have the positive affect of developing the children's knowledge, understanding and skills so that they will be better informed about the world they live in.

Our aim is to produce well-informed and inquisitive children who have a positive attitude to the world and ultimately see themselves as having a role to play, no matter how small, in improving the state of our world.

What do we teach?

  • Physical geography and the forces which shape our world.
  • Human geography and how mankind interacts with his surroundings.
How do we teach?

  • Lessons are usually 60 minutes which gives ample opportunity for small scale fieldwork.
  • We draw from a wide selection of text books and use up to date infoprmation from the internet.
  • We have an interactive white board and an ever growing bank of 'home-made' power point presentations.
  • We use our grounds for environmental studies.
  • We use our local area for traffic surveys, settlement studies and farm visits.
  • We use our Chalet in the French Alps to get face to face with a glacier We draw from our own adventures in the world and from the children's own experiences.
