Art

The Art Department has grown and flourished in tandem with the department of Design Technology, sharing staff as well as a number of resources. Our syllabus is rich and varied with the main focus on observation, drawing, colour theory, three-dimensional drawing and perspective, printing and painting techniques. We aim to achieve this through termly projects that provide a contextual framework, relating to artist’s work, both past and present as well as diverse cultural links. Children are enthused by learning new skills and are keen to see their work on display.

All pupils have access to the Art room in their free time, evenings and weekends. We provide extra evening activities in ceramics, enamelling and art, where children with a particular interest in these areas may develop their skills. For more able and gifted children, we now have a Scholars programme where children from the Shells to the Top Year may benefit from group tuition by a practicing local artist.

Special projects can be great fun, the leavers enjoy the opportunity of creating pieces such as this dramatic totem pole, spending two full days with specialist staff and working in small groups.

We aim to provide each child with individual support and guidance, from specialist staff with excellent facilities.
